Why removal is difficult

YouTube processes millions of reports and uses a combination of AI and human review. Deepfake content that does not violate content policies explicitly, such as non-explicit AI face-swaps, often requires multiple escalation steps. The copyright system (Content ID) does not automatically detect deepfakes. You must file individual DMCA notices per video.

Let us help

Stop chasing takedowns by yourself

Unimpersonationable scans YouTube and other platforms for your face, then drafts a ready-to-file takedown notice for the matches you confirm. You stay the filer of record, and you keep a record of what was sent and when. The scan and the takedown are free. Optional monitoring re-checks on a schedule.

Frequently asked questions

YouTube deepfake removal

Does YouTube remove deepfakes automatically?

No. YouTube does not have automated deepfake detection in its Content ID system. All deepfake removal must be reported manually by the affected person or their representative.

Can I use Content ID to catch deepfakes on YouTube?

Content ID identifies audio and video based on reference files you own. It will not catch AI-generated content that does not use your original footage. Manual DMCA filing is required.

What if a deepfake is monetized on YouTube?

Report via both the standard report flow and DMCA. Also report the monetization as violating YouTube's advertiser-friendly content guidelines. Monetized deepfakes are a priority for YouTube's trust and safety team.

Can I get a YouTube channel terminated for posting deepfakes?

Yes. Multiple copyright strikes or a single severe community guidelines violation can result in channel termination. Include prior violation history when escalating to YouTube support.
